"What Is To Be Done?" Discussion, Thu. 4/9, 7pm

Thursday, April 9, 7pm

UMass Campus Center #905

Join us for a discussion of Russian revolutionary V.I. Lenin's classic "What Is To Be Done?: Burning Questions for Our Movement," a polemical work on the question of what type of organization revolutionary socialists should build in early 20th century Russia. The party that Lenin advocated and was instrumental in organizing ended up leading the world's only revolution where the working class successfully took power.
For this reason, WITDB holds important lessons for those seeking to build a revolutionary organization today.

Read, bring questions, thoughts, and disagreements, and join the discussion!
"What Is To Be Done" can be found online here.
Supplementary reading from the International Socialist Review:
Great article by Paul D'amato on the argument that WITBD is "elitist"

Useful introduction by Todd Chretien on Lenin's idea of the party

By Ahmed Shawki- takes on the question of the kind of organization Socialists need

Useful introduction to the birth of our tradition.
