11/8 Leninism study group part 1: Lenin’s What is to Be Done?

Campus Center Room 165

In the early years of revolutionary organizing in Russia, Lenin and other radicals attempted to forge out of the amateurish and local formations a new revolutionary party of workers. He laid out his ideas in his famous book, What is to Be Done? In the 1960s, many read Lenin’s book as a blueprint while others trashed it as elitist.

Join us for a discussion of Lenin’s book, its strengths and weaknesses, and how it formed the basis for Lenin’s later, more nuanced conception of the party, its relationship to the working class and revolution.
