Thursday * Feb. 17 * 7:30PM
UMass Campus Center #911
After the Russian Revolution Trotsky developed a theory known as "permanent revolution" to explain how underdeveloped countries could advance beyond capitalism, to a socialist society. Trotsky rejected the Stalinist analysis which said that all societies must go through set stages (Feudalism-Capitalism- Socialism) before a socialist society could be founded. This theory has given Marxism important insights on the revolutionary working class struggles in the Global South and especially in the ongoing revolutionary process in Egypt. Join the International Socialist Organization for a discussion on Trotsky's Theory of Permanent Revolution.
