Marxism & Oppression

Thursday * June 10 * 7PM

Thornes Marketplace Basement

150 Main Street

Northampton, MA

Marxism is not just about ending exploitation, it's also about ending oppression: racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, sexism homophobia/transphobia, national oppression...all of that "muck of the ages," as Marx put it.

As the Marxist John Molyneaux wrote:

"The political aim of Marxism is the self- emancipation of the working class for which its unity, nationally and internationally, is essential. Marxists therefore have an absolute duty to combat all forms of structural and ideological oppression , such as racism, sexism and homophobia, which weaken or threaten that unity."

Check out "Marxism and Oppression," a workshop on the Marxist analysis of the roots of oppression and how to end it. This talk will also be offered as a workshop at the Socialism 2010 conference taking place in Chicago from June 17-20.

With so many amazing workshops to choose from(http://www.socialismconference.org/chicago/talks), check this out now so there is one last difficult decision to make at the conference.

The speaker, Gary Lapon is a frequent contributer to Socialistworker.org, and has written for Dissident Voice, Counterpunch, and the Rainbow Times. He is a member of the International Socialist Organization and an activist for LGBT civil rights with Equality Across America here in Western Mass.
