While the Iraq war is widely agreed to be a disaster, politicians and media across the political spectrum continue to maintain that the war and subsequent occupation of Afghanistan is a success. In reality, the occupation has made life far worse for ordinary Afghans. US forces routinely attack innocent civilians and women's rights – hailed as the achievement of the war – have been set back.
