9/6 Organizing Meeting

Join the International Socialist Organization as we kick off the semester at UMASS!

This week's meeting will be an organizing meeting to begin to discuss and plan our fall activities. Come with your ideas and input!! Some of our activities this semester will be to help build anti-war actions, bring independent journalist Dahr Jamail to campus on his Beyond the Green Zone book tour (October 23, location TBA), and organize for our fall conference "Building the Revolutionary Alternative" (11/3 & 11/4 in New York City).

We will also be having a political discussion this week on the recent commutation of Kenneth Foster's death sentence,a major victory in the movement to end the death penalty in Texas and the US. Kenneth's life was saved because of the persistent, imaginative organizing he and his supporters did, which put enough pressure on Texas Governor Rick Perry (who has executed more people than any governor in Texas history, even George Bush) to stop Kenneth's execution. Come celebrate this important victory and talk about what this means for the fight against the death penalty and racism more generally.
